Jenny’s Park Regeneration – Play Again Crowdfunding project

about the project

project summary

Bonnybridge Community Council are raising funds to purchase and install new play equipment in Jenny’s Park (officially known as Duncan Stewart Park)

Falkirk Council will clean up and paint the existing play equipment (from their own maintenance budget), which would complete the project.

This would greatly benefit the local community by once again making Jennys Park a fun and attractive park for families with children and for teenagers to enjoy both now and for the future.

history/background/project status

Jenny’s Park was once the main park within Bonnybridge. It hosted Gala Days (which the community are aiming to restart in 2017) and Community Events. It was frequently used by families with children and teenagers. Over the years some of the play equipment has become tired and one piece was vandalised.  As the vandalised play equipment was nearing its end of life it was removed by Falkirk Council and not replaced.

Falkirk Council Open Space Strategy states that "Although there is an abundance of open space within Bonnnybridge and Banknock, it has the lowest average quality, lowest percentage of open spaces which are fit for purpose and second lowest percentage of the total area of open space which is fit for purpose of any settlement area. It is also the only settlement area where the quality of open space has deteriorated between the 1st and 2nd open space audits.  Improving the quality of open space in Bonnybridge and Banknock should be one of the Councils highest investment priorities.  The area has an above average number of households."

However, Falkirk Council have let the Community Council know that although Jenny’s Park is identified as a Priority 1 for improvement, they don’t have the budget to carry out the improvements.

The Council are committed to support Bonnybridge Community Council if we obtain funding to purchase new play equipment and they will maintain the new play equipment and clean up and paint the existing play equipment to help bring the park back to its former glory.

We have taken up the challenge and are looking for £17,000 from a variety of funding sources. We recently launched a crowdfund campaign with MyParkScotland “Play again in Jenny’s park” and we hope to from raise the funding from the local public, businesses, local groups and grant funders.

project outcomes

This would greatly improve the local area by providing a fun and attractive park for families and children to enjoy.

  • We will be able to host Gala days in the park again
  • A great park will make local people feel proud of where they live
  • Hopefully our children and young people will be more physically active!
