Aberdeen City Council has approved a community food growing programme and £145,000 will be spent on initiatives within the three regeneration areas involving community partners. A Food Growing Development Officer will be funded to deliver, monitor and develop 12 projects. These will include creating food-growing spaces in some schools; polytunnels, piloting vertical growing in small spaces and creating ‘food-growing bags’ for distribution through Community Food Outlets. The Food programme will act as a catalyst and will engage local people to get involved in the development of the Local Food Growing Strategy for Aberdeen City. The programme is also closely linked with the Sustainable Food City Partnership Aberdeen. More
