selecting financial proxies with stakeholders

SROI places a value on the changes that stakeholders experience using financial proxies. The value represented by the proxy must equate to the value placed on the change by the individual stakeholders – to do this properly they have to be consulted. Stakeholders sometimes find it difficult to put a value on what the change means to them and may find this easier to do if they can relate it to the benefits or enjoyment delivered by items or activities they know and understand. Clearly the comparisons chosen will vary from group to group.

Details of the financial proxies used can be found in each of the individual SROI analyses. Financial proxies should not be selected on the basis of value but should be selected in consultation with stakeholders. Some useful proxies that may help take account of greenspace and environmental interests are available for download below. Additional proxies that may be of interest for organisations undertaking community based activities will be available late January 2012.

Please note that the above is a sample of some of the materials used by greenspace scotland and partner groups and organisations to carry out SROI analyses. It is important to recognise that each SROI analysis is unique and whilst these resources can be used for guidance they will need to be adapted and tailored to meet the different requirements of each analysis.
